The change starts with our own improvement, but it surely doesn’t end there.

No philosophies, other than Stoicism and Buddhism, are capable of offering us any effective strategies for navigating this grotesque, absurd, and unjust landscape we’re all living in right now. I teach Stoicism because it changes lives and because, through practice, it helps people become capable of truly changing our world for the better. We need Stoics. We need Stoics desperately.

I’m holding a workshop this weekend, and I want you to attend it.

One of the greatest philosophical mistakes of the modern world has been treating the pursuit of a good life as though it were either impossible to define or entirely subjective.

Much contemporary thinking trains us to endlessly qualify, deconstruct, and relativize. Every claim is met with, “from whose perspective?” Every standard is dissolved into preference. Every moral judgement becomes unstable.

There is value in skepticism and nuance. But there is also a cost.

A person cannot confidently pursue a good life if they’ve first been convinced that “good” itself has no objective meaning.

The Stoics believed differently: they believed human beings could reason about what is good, what is harmful, what helps us flourish, and what corrupts our character. They believed that clarity about these things mattered — not academically, but practically. Because how we think about the good shapes how we live.

I teach Stoicism because I think recovering that clarity matters. I think much of our confusion, anxiety, aimlessness, and social fragmentation stems from our abandonment of the idea that human flourishing has an intelligible structure.

If that sounds too ambitious a claim, let me prove it to you.
