You weren't built to be comfortable. You were built to be useful.
At dawn, when you have trouble getting out of bed, tell yourself: “I have to go to work — as a human being. What do I have to complain of, if I'm going to do what I was born for? The things I was brought into the world to do?
Marcus probably didn't want to get out of bed some days either. The Emperor of Rome, many times I’m sure, wanted five more minutes under the duvet.
Well, welcome to the club Marcus.
But Marcus didn’t guilt himself into rising. He reasoned himself into it. He reminds himself of his role!
A human being has work to do. Not busy work. Not performative productivity. The work of being a decent person in a world that makes decency inconvenient.
That's it. That's the job.
We’re not being called to sagehood this morning. We’re being called simply to get up and try. Try to think clearly. Try to act justly. Try to be the kind of person our roles require us to be.
The duvet will be there tonight. Your roles need you now.
Today's suggestion: Before your feet hit the floor tomorrow morning, ask yourself: What role needs me most today? See if that motivates you differently.
Stay hungry. Stay wise. Eat brekkie.

PS: As you can see, based on the image used in today’s edition, Brekkie Man and Stoic Brekkie are undergoing a slight design change. I want this newsletter to have a Saturday Morning cartoon vibe. Bear with me as I make this transition. Look at little chubby old man Stoic… I love him 🥹
