Obstacles as Fuel
Sickness is a hindrance to the body, but not to your ability to choose, unless that is your choice. Lameness is a hindrance to the leg, but not to your ability to choose."
Today is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
It is a perfect time to talk about Epictetus. He wasn’t just a philosopher; he was born a slave and lived with a permanent physical disability (a lame leg). He didn't write about resilience from a comfortable armchair; he lived it every single day.
Epictetus taught us that our bodies are "externals"—we don't have total control over them. They can get sick, they can be injured, and they will eventually age. But our mind? That is the Inner Fortress.
No matter what physical challenges you face today—whether it's a chronic condition or just a bad hair day—remember that your character remains untouched. Your ability to be kind, brave, and wise is 100% up to you. That is a power no one can take away.
Stay hungry, stay wise.
