"A man when he has done a good act, does not call out for others to come and see, but he goes on to another act, as a vine goes on to produce again the grapes in season."
Welcome to Giving Tuesday.
After the frenzy of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, today is the global palate cleanser. It’s a day dedicated to generosity.
We often think of charity as a sacrifice—giving something up. But the Stoics saw it differently. They believed that humans are "social animals" designed to work together, just like feet, hands, and eyelids. When you help someone else, you are actually fulfilling your own nature. You are doing exactly what you were built to do.
Marcus Aurelius reminds us not to look for a receipt or a "thank you" card. A vine doesn’t ask for applause when it grows a grape. It just grows another one.
So today, whether you donate money or just give someone a hand with their groceries, don't do it for the applause. Do it because it’s what you were made for.
Stay hungry, stay wise.
